Can A Jaw Supporter Help Me Stop Snoring?

October 19, 2009

If you are looking for a snoring remedy, you may be surprised and amazed at the variety of solutions that are offered. Some companies specialise in the manufacture of various different types of equipment which they promise will solve the problem. Other companies recommend that you change your lifestyle. In addition to all this, some medical companies offer surgery in a bid to solve the problem.

One snoring remedy which is becoming more and more widely used these days is a Jaw Supporter. The idea behind this piece of equipment is that it will hold your lower jaw slightly forward whilst you are asleep. Because of this, it means that you will not snore and whilst you may benefit from this, it is probably your partner who will benefit the most from a good nights sleep.

The cause of stress have been debated long and often by medical professionals. One this is clear though a lack of sleep does not help. If you suffer from stress and, in addition, have a husband or wife who disturbs your sleep by snoring, you need to take action before your stress levels get even worse. A snoring remedy can provide the solution to the problem.

One very simple snoring remedy is a chin strap. When you are asleep, your muscles relax and, because of this, the chances are that your mouth will fall open. This, in turn, can lead to snoring. A simple chin strap can resolve the problem by holding your mouth closed. Why not give it a go? Youve not got anything to lose.

One snoring remedy which may prove effective is a special kind of anti snoring pillow. These pillows are widely available, either over the internet or in high street shops, and can provide a welcome relief from the problem. The pillows can also help if you suffer from neck or back pain as they tend to be much more supportive of your neck.

It has been estimated that the majority of married people are, at one time or another, kept awake by the sound of their husband or wife snoring during the night. Many companies have seen this gap in the market as a business opportunity and now offer what they promise will be a snoring remedy it could be a special type of pillow or jaw support.

As a last resort, a number of people are now considering medical surgery as a snoring remedy. The problem must be severe for such drastic action to be contemplated and must also have some medical cause there is no point in going through the discomfort and risk of an operation if it is not going to produce any benefits.

Losing weight to provide a snoring remedy may seem a bit odd, but the chances are that it can help a lot. If you are overweight you are much more likely to snore and if you smoke this increases the risk even more. Giving up cigarettes and unhealthy food may seem a bit drastic, but you will be healthier and feel fitter.

Snoring Remedies – Help Reduce Snoring Sounds

June 30, 2009

Despite being treated with levity in most quarters, snoring is the source of enormous distress to many hundreds of people on a nightly basis. And not only the snorer themselves suffer, but also their partners and, if the snoring is intrusive enough, sometimes even other members of the household.

The cause of snoring is the vibration of soft tissue in the mouth and upper airways, generally as a result of the relaxation and loss of muscle tone during sleep, although in some circumstances similar problems extend into the waking day. Such is the embarrassment connected with snoring that some sufferers will deny it despite the testimony of their partners.

There are numerous causes of snoring, and solving the problem starts with identifying the particular cause. Extra fat around the neck, a particular problem zone for men and for women in later life, can account for the pressure on the relaxed airways which results in snoring.

Alcohol can be involved in causing snoring on several fronts: in slowing the brains responses, it causes the muscles to relax, but can also irritate or congest the breathing passages, making snoring more likely, and can be a contributing factor in weight gain.
Sleeping pills can also negatively affect muscle tone.

Cigarette smoke is another irritant to the nasal passages and throat, causing possible swelling and catarrh, and the degree and likelihood of consequences are directly related to the number of cigarettes smoked. Giving up alcohol and cigarettes is generally unwelcome advice, but at least having the last drink or cigarette several hours before bedtime will give the body some time to recover from the toxins which can contribute to snoring.

One of the most easily solved factors in snoring is sleeping on your back. Youre more likely to sleep with your mouth open in this position, so anti snoring devices which prompt you to sleep on your side, or with your head raised, may be all thats required to solve the problem.

More complicated or invasive anti snoring devices are available to reduce mouth breathing which isnt solved by raising the bed head. The combination of support for the lower lip or jaw from chin straps and strips, and nasal strips to open the nostrils have been shown to be effective in some studies.

Sometimes the cause of snoring is simple and nothing to be concerned about: having a cold would be an obvious example. Other underlying reasons are worth pursuing, for instance common allergies which can lead to stuffiness or breathing difficulties (including dust mites, feathers, and house pets), and small nostrils, or any kind of blockage in the nose (such as polyps). In these instances treating the cause will have other health benefits as well as ending snoring.

Snoring Devices Are Weird – Nasal Dilators

June 14, 2009

There are many devices on the market which claim to help people stop snoring. One particular type of product is a gum shield known as a mandibular device. This is used to push the lower jaw forward which opens up the airway and stops the tongue vibrating against the back of your throat. This means that snoring will be minimised.

Numerous people use nasal dilators as an anti-snoring devise. The words nasal dilator might make you think of complicated equipment but they are actually adhesive strips which you use to open up your nasal passages. As you are much more likely to snore if you are suffering from a blocked nose, these dilators are very popular in helping you, and your partner, get a good nights sleep.

If your partner keeps you awake at night by snoring, then why not buy them a special chin strap? It might sound like a weird present to buy someone, but it could help save your relationship. The straps are designed to stop people snoring and lots of companies offer these types of strap for sale.

Whilst it might seem a bit extreme to use a machine as a cure for snoring, CPAP machines do mean that snoring can be reduced. CPAP (or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machines to give them their full title) keep the throat open which helps stop irregular breathing thus leading to snore-free sleep.

Quite a sizeable industry has grown up around advertising devices which will either reduce or eliminate snoring. One such product is a special pillow which offers much more support than normal pillows. This means that your breathing will remain more regular whilst you are asleep which, in turn, means you are much less likely to snore.

There are lots of devices on the market which claim to help stop people snoring. However, rather than spending a lot of money trying these out, why not try something rather more simple? Just sew a pocket onto the back of your pyjamas, put a tennis ball in it and there you have it a device which will stop you sleeping on your back and so reduce the chances of you snoring.

If all else fails and your snoring is affecting not only your sleep but also prevents your partner from sleeping, you could consider surgery. However, before you do, you need to find out exactly what is causing you to snore and whether an anti-snoring device could cure it. Snoring does not have one single cause (and therefore not one single cure) and if you did have surgery, it would be devastating to find that you were not cured.

Devices which promise to reduce or eliminate snoring can prove costly so why not try a few steps yourself before parting with any cash. Take a good look at your diet if you are overweight then its much more likely that you will snore. If you are a smoker, again there is more chance that you will snore. So stopping smoking and losing weight can both contribute to a snore-free nights sleep.

What Snoring Solutions Can I Try?

June 1, 2009

Snoring SolutionsAs one very tired and stressed wife said the only sure-fire solution to stop my husband disturbing me at night with his snoring is a pillow the only thing is, she didnt specify whether she would use it to cover her ears or to smother him!! Joking aside, snoring can put a very serious strain on even the strongest relationships but what to do about it is a question that has been asked by a lot of people for a long time.

One snoring solution offered to snorers is a mandibular advancement splint. It sounds very complicated but basically it is a lightweight mouth piece which pushes your lower jaw forward slightly. When you are asleep, your airway narrows and causes the soft tissue in your throat to vibrate this is what causes you to snore. The splint reduces the risk of your airway narrowing during the night.

Breathing through your nose can reduce the chance of you snoring. If you are suffering from a cold or flu, there are numerous medications on the market which can help unblock your nose. This means that both you and your partner can get a good nights sleep you wont be tossing and turning and trying to breathe through your mouth and your partner wont be disturbed by the sound of you snoring.

Whilst adultery and money problems are usually seen as the main causes of marriage breakdown, snoring has also been cited as one example of unreasonable behaviour. Whilst this may seem rather trivial, it can play a major role in the breakdown of a relationship. If one partner is continually unable to sleep, this can lead to so many problems which suddenly seem insurmountable.

A simple solution for snoring is to look at your lifestyle. Make a few changes and you could find a cure (as well as helping you achieve a more healthy way of living). Obesity is one of the major factors contributing to snoring so why not take the plunge and lose that weight. Losing weight will not only make you feel better, it will also help your partner who wont be disturbed by you snoring at night.

Some of the solutions marketed to help you stop snoring include nasal sprays and nasal strips. If you are snoring because your nose is blocked as you are suffering from a cold or flu then a decongestant medicine can help. Your posture can also determine whether you are more likely to snore so it may also be worth investing in an anti-snoring pillow.

Whilst there are some common reasons why people snore (and therefore some common solutions), research has found that what provides a solution for one person may not work for someone else. There is no single reason why we snore, but there are a lot of contributory factors. Whilst individuals can deal with things that can contribute to why they snore (and so reduce their chance of snoring), there is no cast-iron cure.

A medical condition called sleep apnea can result in snoring. This condition means that a persons breathing is interrupted whilst they are asleep they therefore breathe unevenly, sometime taking deep gulps of air which can cause sudden snores. Although it is a common condition, especially in men, it can be serious and should be discussed with a medical professional.
